Let me tell you one of my frustrations. Auto mechanics are not thieves. When we tell you that a part of your car needs to be replaced, it REALLY needs to be replaced.
The problem with people is that they think every auto mechanic is just out to get their money. It’s like people are on auto response or something. The moment a mechanic tells them that a car part needs replacing, immediately their brows start to furrow, a look of concern (no, make that suspicion) comes to their eyes, and they blurt out the ever popular question, “Why?”. I’ve got nothing against the why question. In fact, I encourage people to ask it. After all, that’s the only way for them to know what’s wrong with their car.
What I really hate though are people who contest the answer to that Why. When the auto mechanic starts telling them why, they still question the answer! The worst people are those who interrupt in the middle of the explanation, not even bothering to listen WHY the car part needs to be replaced. They immediately think that the mechanic is wrong, contradict everything the mechanic says, and drive off looking for a second opinion.
I think the major reason why people are so suspicious is because they don’t know nothing about the cars they just bought. Learning about their car is such a chore, car language is so foreign, and it’s such a headache thinking that they need to shell out more money for their car. Again, another problem is that when people buy a car, they neglect to think about the cost of maintenance and repairs. When people buy cars, they think the expenses stop when the car is bought. They mildly consider the expenses of gas, probably repairs, but maintenance? That’s just out of the equation.
Anyway, back to the main issue. Auto mechanics are not thieves. We study cars for a living so we obviously know when something can go potentially wrong. Sure, you don’t see it now, you don’t feel it now, but in the end, taking our advice will ultimately save you a lot more money. Major repairs are expensive, so do replace that car part before it affects the entirety of your car. We do understand that car maintenance can cost you dollars, but really, you should have thought about that before you even bought your car.
